Novembre: The BlueNovembre: The blue

05/08/10  ||  Desert Eagle

Now this is an album I can relax to. If you are familiar with Novembre at all then this should come as no surprise. If you are not familiar, allow me to indulge you. Novembre are all about the melody and atmosphere. While they do have screaming vocals and whatnot occasionally it’s all pretty mellow. But that is what I like about them. If I ever have to go for a long drive somewhere, I’ll pop in this CD and just chill. Everyone needs a CD like that, and who knows, this could be yours.

Novembre are from Italy just like Lacuna Coil. Who they sound just like. Kidding! Oh man wouldn’t that suck? However, it does mean that their lyrics are bat-shit retarded. It’s OK though because most of the time you can’t understand the singer and sometimes I swear he’s speaking another language. My guess would be Italian, but you never know.

I know most people usually like comparisons in order to determine whether or not they might like a band but I honestly have a hard time coming up with them for this band. It’s not that they are totally unique or anything, it’s just that they play a type of music that I don’t listen to much. Encyclopedia Metallum has them listed as “Gothic/Doom/Death Metal” and really that gothic part just scares me. So let me just say that they kind of remind me of Katatonia but not really. I bet that’s really helpful!

Honestly I could get into all the instrumentation aspects of this album but really all I want to stress is just how peaceful it is to listen to this album. The first track, “Anaemia”, sets up the whole album perfectly. It starts with a nice little acoustic riff the slowly introduces distorted guitars and some steady riffing with a nice scream. And that’s what Novembre is all about. A healthy mix of pleasant and unpleasant. Or clean and dirty. Or light and dark. Or however the fuck you want to call it. There’s even a broad singing on a couple songs which goes along perfectly with this whole theme that I am having trouble describing.

As for recommended tracks I will go with these three: “Anaemia”, “Bluecracy”, “Architheme”.

And seriously, check these guys out the next time you have a long car ride ahead of you.
